Lethal White. 'Robert Galbraith' (J K Rowling)

I much enjoy the mystery aspects of this series as it makes a nice relaxation from the more intense fiction that I tend to gravitate towards  The crime novel aspects are always very well done – convincing (clearly a lot of research has gone into this aspect) and they are always masterfully and intriguingly plotted. The final chapter here though is, perhaps necessarily, VERY heavily expositional/explanatory as the very complicated plot has been carefully and very effectively concealed for much of the work.

Additionally, there is always a strong sense of place, particularly in the scenes around London – in the ordinary suburban mean streets in particular. However, one of the best aspects of these books has been the developing relationship between Strike Robin and, particularly in this latest episode, Matthew. This is, for me, a strong reason to follow avidly the series, excellent though the crime mystery aspects are.
